2023: Confusion in Ebonyi as court voids PDP primaries, gives 14 day for fresh election

A federal High Court sitting in Abuja has voided the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ebonyi State, just a few months before the general election.

Recall that the Party, PDP, in its first primary election conducted in May 28th and 29th 2022, elected Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as its gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi State.

The party also held another primary election on the 4th and 5th of June 2022, which produced Obinna Ogba as its factional governorship candidate.

It was gathered that the 1st primary election of the PDP which produced Odii as a guber candidate was conducted under the headship of Silas Onu while the 2nd Primary election of the party that produced Ogba, was conducted under the headship of Tochukwu Okorie.

Both Odii and Ogba reportedly fought gallantly in court for the PDP guber ticket in Ebonyi, wherein the Supreme Court later ruled in favour of Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii.

Newsmen now reports that the Presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako has allegedly nullified all the primary elections of the PDP conducted under Silas Onu.

Justice, Nyako, however, gave fourteen days (14 days) for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to conduct a fresh primary election.

When contacted, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Tochukwu Okorie confirmed the nullification of the Party’s primaries.

He said the party will soon make its position known as regards the federal High court ruling.
