2023 Campaigns: NSCDC urges political parties to respect laws
The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called on political parties to respect law and order while embarking on campaigns for the 2023 elections in the state.
The NSCDC Commandant, Mr Mohammed Sanusi-Bello, made the call on Thursday in Katsina when he received the state’s All Progressive Congress (APC) campaign council security and intelligence committee in his office.
The 25-member committee was in the Command to intimate the commandant on the mandate bestowed on them by the party.
Sanusi-Bello assured the Committee of the command’s readiness to ensure that law and order was maintained during the forthcoming general election.
He also admonished the party and their supporters to maintain decorum and conduct themselves according to the laws of Nigeria for a clean and peaceful election.
The commandant assured the Committee of the commitment of the Command to support all stakeholders to operate peacefully within the ambit of the law for a free and fair electioneering processes.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director of the committee, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Maigari Dikko, said the members were mostly retired security officers.
“We came on this courtesy visit to intimate the Commandant and his management team on the responsibilities bestowed upon us in respect of the 2023 general elections in the state.
“And also to formally introduce ourselves and inform the commandant on the mandate of the committee,” he said.
According to him, the core mandate of the Committee is to collaborate with security agencies to ensure peaceful elections across Katsina state during the general election.
He reiterated that APC was a peaceful party and would operate under the guidance of all the enabling laws/Acts as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to him, the party is also ready to operate according to the 2022 Electoral Act and party’s constitution amongst other enabling laws.
He, therefore, appreciated the efforts of the Command in the protection of lives and properties of the people of Katsina state.
Dikko further solicited for the non-partisan assistance of the Command in maintaining law and order before, during and after the elections.
