Former governor of Osun State, and incumbent Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, boycotted today’s election.
Aregbesola did not vote in the July 16 Osun governorship election in the state.
When our correspondent visited his polling unit at Ilofi Polling Unit 1, Ward 8, voters said the Minister did not come home.
Another voter at the polling unit said the Minister came home recently.
Immediate past Governor of Osun Adegboyega Oyetola commended voters and INEC official, said the election was going on peacefully, “I have contacted a lot of places, I think the exercise is going on well. The environment is actually more of APC, so all our candidates will win. The turn out is quite impressive we still have some time.
“I have been moved from my previous polling units to this place. This is the first time I cast my vote here. The conduct INEC officials is highly commendable. I believe we are going to have a very free, fair and credible election if what I have seen here is something to go by.
Similarly, the former Speaker of Osun state House of Assemble, Hon. Adejare Bello described the turn out of the electorates at unit 4 and 13 ,ward 3 in Ede North local government area of Osun state as impressive.
Adejare who spoke to journalists shortly after casting his votes for the presidential, national Assembly candidates of his choice said; “This is a day we have all be waiting for . We give all the Glory to God for the opportunity given to witness this day”.
According to him the electorates came out in their large number to cast their votes, saying if other polling units witnessed the same turn out one will conclude that the exercise will be free, fair and credible .
The former Speaker who is also Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico said the Nigerian electorates have been waiting for day like this, look at how people are on the queue orderly trying to cast their votes for a candidate of their choice if other unit and wards in Osun State are like this, it means the election would be seen as peaceful.
