2023: APC, PDP, others to appear in A/Ibom gov’ship debate

No fewer than six out of 18 registered political parties in the country are to appear before the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Governorship Debates slated for Sunday January 26, 2023.

The debate, organized by the state’s chapter of NUJ is supported by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Clement Isong Foundation, Nigeria Society of Engineers, National Union of Local Government Employees, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), YIAGA Africa, Enough is Enough, Youth Alive Foundation, Ibom People’s Congress, USA, Franklyn Ever Bright Farms Limited and Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria, USA Inc,(AKISAN), and Action Aid Nigeria.

Others are; Primehill Limited, Capital Luxury and Youth for Change Initiative.

The event will hold at the Ibom Icon Hotel and Gulf Resort, Nwaniba near Uyo.

The political parties to appear are; the All Progressives Congress, APC, African Alliance Congress, Young Progressives Party, African Democratic Congress, People’s Democratic Party and New Nigerian People’s Party.

Chairman of the NUJ Political Committee, Comrade Aniekan Udofia disclosed this at the unveiling of the governorship debate logo yesterday (Thursday), at the Press Center along Information Drive in Uyo.

In his remarks tagged, “Akwa Ibom on the threshold of history: As we begin the journey to defining our collective dreams”, one of the most important goals of NUJ in the state is to build a collaboration with key stakeholders in the society to ursher in an acceptable new democratic dispensation in Akwa Ibom.

According to him, “as a result, the 2023 Akwa Ibom governorship debate will witness one of the most extensive collaborations in the history of debates in Nigeria.

“For months, this committee consulted with stakeholders to bring them on board under one umbrella to deliver a governorship debate on behalf of Akwa Ibom people.

“The governorship debate is only driven by the NUJ but, is owned by many. We are optimistic that all sociocultural organisations in the state will sign up to this debate”.

Udofia also stated that, the 2023 governorship debate would be live on 11 radio stations, 6 television stations and streamed live on several social media platforms for the people to hear first hand the plans the governorship candidates have for Akwa Ibom.

He implored the media outfits to take the event as their mandate to the people by ensuring that the generality of the citizenry are informed.

Udofia commended the state chairman of NUJ, Comrade Amos Etim for his visionary leadership saying, it can only take a great leader to initiate this kind of project.
