2023: APC Delta Chieftain urges members to work the change they desire
Chief Anthony Ndanenu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta, has charged members of the party in Ndokwa East especially, to work the change they desire ahead of the 2023 election.
He said this in an interview on Saturday in Abuja, while decrying the marginalisation and lack of government presence in the area.
Ndanenu noted that in spite of the endowment of Ndokwa East as one of the oil producing areas in Delta, it lacked government presence and social amenities, including good road, electricity, portable water, and health care facilities.
He, therefore, charged members of the party in the state to work towards enthroning an APC government in the state and better representatives at the State House of Assembly.
“It is only in Ndokwa nation that you cannot boast of any good road from the State Government. It’s only in Ndokwa nation that we don’t have any higher institution of learning.
“The Government of Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa keeps telling us there is no fund for the approved Aboh Polytechnic.
“It is also only in Ndokwa that a state government will promise building an industrial park and will not keep to its promise.
“As I speak, vehicles have never entered some communities in Ndokwa East, there is no tarred road to Akarai, Umuti, Umuolu, Afiankwo, Okpokrika, Adai, Utuoku, Oworobia, Onyah, Utchi, Abala Obodo and Abala Oshimili,” he said.
He added that Abala Uno, Inyi, Onuoabo, Azagba, Egwedhe Obikwele and some other communities in the area were also not accessable.
Ndanenu said he could no longer keep on watching while the people of the area suffered neglect and marginalisation.
He said the days of sitting on the fence to complain about bad governance and neglect of the area was over, adding that it was time to change the narrative.
This, he said, was the reason he was joining the race to contest the forthcoming Delta State House of Assembly election to represent Ndokwa East Constituency.
“Having consulted widely among my people, I opted to go into the race with the aim of making the incoming government come 2023 hear the voice of our excessively oppressed Local Government Areas. It is my belief that our voices must be heard.
“I am joining the race to recuse my people from poor living condition and to address the issues of neglect of Ndokwa East, and to better the lots of my people who have been marginalised over time,” he said.
While acknowledging that on his own, he would not make it, Ndanenu added that the support and cooperation of APC members in the area was critical to change the narrative.
“All I need is your prayers and moral support. I believe that with me in Delta House of Assembly, government will be brought closer to the grassroots.
“With me in the house, our cry of long time neglect and marginalisation will be heard in the appropriate quarters. With your support we can make it happen,” he said.
