The President General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, has commended maritime industry stakeholders for being good partners in the outgoing year, charging them to do more to improve the welfare of their employees for the benefit of the country in 2024.
Adeyanju gave the commendation in a goodwill message during the Christmas celebration to maritime stakeholders including the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), National Association of Stevedore Operators (NASO), Shipping companies and the Seaports Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN).
Adeyanju, who is also the Deputy President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) noted that a good welfare package remains the mechanism that drives workers for optimal results.
In the statement signed by Head of Media, MWUN, John Ikemefuna, Adeyanju also felicitated with the stakeholders and Nigerians as they celebrated Christmas.
He also sent greetings to the four Branches of the Maritime Workers Union namely: the NPA , Shipping, Seafarers and the Dockworkers Branches as well as the Union’s administrative staffers urging them to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ, who is the reason for the season.
He said that the tolerance and sacrifice of Jesus Christ should be imbibed in their lifestyles as national co-existence, cohesion amongst Nigerians, stressing that these virtues will bring in the much expected peace amongst Nigerians.
Adeyanju also admonished Nigerians to be of good behavior stating that, “We should be our brothers’ keeper all the time; regardless of what we are passing through today. There’s nothing the Almighty God cannot do; hence we should emulate the life of Jesus Christ, who taught us perseverance, long-suffering, while applying his principles of love and patience always.”
In the same vein, Comrade Adeyanju was full of praise as he poured encomiums on the Union’s administrative staffers, whom he described as one of the best in the sector.
The number one Maritime Labour Leader also celebrated with the staffers during the Union’s end of year party held at the Union’s Secretariat, promising that the end of year party will be observed annually.
