2022 World Cup: Southgate drops Chelsea star from England’s 26-man squad
Chelsea defender, Reece James, will not be part of England’s squad to the World Cup in Qatar because of injury.
Sky Sports reports the decision was taken after discussions with manager Gareth Southgate on Tuesday.
It was decided the full-back has not recovered enough from the knee injury he suffered against AC Milan in the Champions League last month.
James flew to Dubai to undergo an intensive rehabilitation programme in a bid to be fit for Qatar.
He has even been doing some tentative running at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground in recent days.
However, Southgate has taken the tough decision to tell James that he cannot risk including him in his 26-man squad that will be announced on Thursday.
