2022 World Cup: Brazil coach, Tite explains shock decision to call up Martinelli
Brazil coach, Tite, has explained the late decision to include Gabriel Martinelli in his squad to the 2022 World Cup.
Martinelli has been in excellent form for Arsenal, scoring five goals and providing two assists, as Mikel Arteta’s men top the Premier League after 13 matches.
Despite his impressive performances, the 21-year-old only appeared to be an outside chance of making Tite’s squad after being snubbed for the September’s internationals.
But on Monday it was confirmed Martinelli would be on the plane to Qatar.
Speaking at a press conference after naming his squad for the World Cup, Tite was asked why he picked Martinelli.
He replied: “We like Martinelli’s aggressiveness. He’s one of the top players at Arsenal, the first placed team in the Premier League.
“He’s good in one-v-ones, he’s very rapid in transitions and he’s been playing at a consistently good level.”
