2022 Guber: PDP women canvass for more political participation in Ekiti

By Mike Adebayo, Ado-Ekiti

As the 2022 governorship elections in Ekiti State draw closer, a young and vibrant political group, Eleka Women Ambassadors (EWA) and prominent women of Ekiti State chapter of People’s Democratic Party, has urged the women in the state to all go out to the nooks and crannies of the state to sensitize, appeal and mobilize women at the farmstead in Ekiti State to register in the ongoing electronic voter’s registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The group stated that it is the only weapon to have desired change in the forthcoming governorship election in year 2022.

This was made known in Ado-Ekiti the state capital, on Tuesday, at a much-attended programme organized in honour of a former deputy governor of the state and gubernatorial candidate hopeful, Prof. Kolapo Eleka.

EWA while speaking with Nigerian NewsDirect also appealed to the delegates in the 2022 PDP gubernatorial primary elections to stand firm and not subject themselves to any oath-taking or threat from any group, leaders or any individuals in the State.

It further posited that only God appoints and chooses the right leaders, advocating that Professor Eleka stands the best among the contestants.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the state has earlier commenced physical registration of voters, Nigerian NewsDirect reports.

The electoral body who made it known that the exercise is meant for those who have earlier completed the online registration.

According to INEC, the exercise is taking place at INEC offices across the sixteen local governments of the state with one centre each and two venues at the commission’s state office in Ado-Ekiti.

In a chat with Nigerian NewsDirect Correspondent in Ado-Ekiti, the INEC Head of Voter’s Education and Publicity, Alhaji Taiwo Gbadegesin implored eligible voters who have completed the online registration to make themselves available for the physical one and to be orderly.

Alhaji Gbadegesin, however, warned that there would be no registration by proxy, saying that anybody caught would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

“The online registration had been temporarily suspended, pending that physical capturing of those who had earlier took part in the online exercise,” INEC stated.
