Team Nigeria got off to a perfect start in the table tennis event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Friday.
Veteran ping ponger, Edem Offiong won her Women’s singles event game 3-0 (11-1, 11-2, 11-3) against Cumberbatch of St Vincent and The Grenadines.
Tosin Oribamise also defeated Delpesche from St Vincent and The Grenadines 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.
In the Men’s singles event, Aruna Quadri cruised into the next round after a three-set win against South Africa’s Jones Shoun.
Quadri won the group game, 11-6, 11-3, 12-10.
Also, Olajide Omotayo defeated South Africa’s Nathoo C.O. in three sets (11-9, 11-6, 11-6).
In the Women’s doubles event, Fatimo Bello and Edem defeated their opponents, Velox and Cumberbatch from St Vincent and The Grenadines 11-6, 11-2, 11-5.
Omeh Amadi and Olajide won their first group game in the Men’s doubles against South African duo, Cogill Theo and Nathoo.
Nigeria won in three sets 11-5, 11-5, 11-5.
