2020 budget: Buhari happy with you, Gbajabiamila tells Reps

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the plenary on Wednesday gave members feedback from the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on the timely passage of the 2020 Appropriation Bill.

The Senate and the House of Representatives had on December 5, 2019, concurrently passed the bill, raising the total estimates from the proposed N10.33tn to about N10.6tn.

As part of the N264bn increment, the National Assembly raised its own budget from N125bn to N128bn.

Buhari had assented to the bill on Tuesday, turning the national budget into an Act of the National Assembly.

Gbajabiamila said the President thanked members of the House for the patriotism they showed in passing the 2020 budget on time.

He added that Buhari was appreciative of the lawmakers’ commitment and diligence towards returning the country’s fiscal year to January-December.

He said, “I want to convey the President’s appreciation to you all for working on the budget in record time. The President thanked all the members for their commitment to returning the country’s budget cycle to January to December.”

While personally thanking his colleagues for their diligence and hard work in the last six months, the Speaker wished them a memorable festive season.
