An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, on Friday, sentenced a 20-year-old man, Toheeb Makinde, to six months imprisonment for burglary and theft.
Makinde, whose address was not provided, had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun, said that all the evidences presented in court had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the offences, as charged.
Somefun consequently sentenced Makinde to six months in prison without an option of fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 7, 2021 at about 10:00 a.m. at Ogun Radio area of in Abeokuta.
Shonibare said that the convict entered and burgled the apartment of one Mr Rasaq Olabode through the ceiling and stole a rechargeable table fan, DVD player, electrical wires and N120,000, among others.He explained that the convict was caught by the neigbours around while trying to escape the stolen items on his Bajaj motorcycle.
The prosecutor said that he was, thereafter, apprehended and taken to Lafenwa police station where he was handed over to the police for further investigation.
According to him, the offences contravene Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
