Two unemployed men who allegedly burgled an apartment, carting away valuables worth N285,000, were on Friday arraigned in Lagos.

The defendants, Olarewaju Opaleye, 22, and Segun Samuel, 20, both residents of No. 3 Giwa St., Fagba, Lagos, were charged with conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court where the case came up.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on Dec. 28, 2023, at 1, Old Akute Road, Iju Ishaga, Lagos.

Akeem alleged that the defendants burgled the apartment of one Mrs Dupe Oyebayo and stole N150, 000 cash, and gas cylinder valued N20, 000.

He said that the defendants also stole two wrist watches, valued N30, 000, and children wares valued N85, 000, all totalling N285, 000.

The prosecutor also alleged that one of the neighbours sighted the defendants when they were leaving the compound.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 287, 310 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Feb. 22, for mention.
