2 sales reps. in court over alleged N2.8m theft

Two sales representatives, Joseph Agu and Oluwaseyi Ogunmola, who allegedly stole their employer’s N2.8 million, on Friday appeared at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Agu, 35 and Ogunmola, 24, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Kennedy Aibpokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Jan. 11, at Health Creed Pharmacy, No. 33, Idimu Road, Ejigbo, Lagos.

Aibpokhan said that the defendants stole the N2.8 million realised from sales of pharmacitical products, belonging to their employer, Mr Ayangu Igwebuike.

He said that the defendants were arrested when they could not give account of the missing money.

Aibpokhan said the offences contravened Sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Section 287(7) provides seven years imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer, while Section 411 stipulates two years jail term for conspiracy.

The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

He said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Ogunkanmi adjourned the case until March 15, for mention.
