2 remanded for breaking into houses, stealing fans, phones, cash

A young man, Marwan Abubakar and one other have been remanded in prison custody in Yola, Adamawa State, over allegations of breaking into people’s houses and stealing valuables.

The Chief Magistrate Court I sitting in Yola ordered the remand of the two defendants after they pleaded guilty to all the alleged offences.

While arraigning the defendants earlier, the police prosecutor, Inspector S.S. Nicholas, told the court that 19-year-old Marwan and Iliyasu Abubakar committed the alleged offences on June 12, 2023, when the two defendants and one Ibrahim Mallam (now at large) invaded the residence of Aitiya Wesley at Kofare and carted away several items.

He alleged that the trio trespassed into her house and made away with a handset, eight wristwatches, some ceiling fans, and clothes which amounted to N611,000.

The Prosecutor also alleged that Marwan and Musa Muhammed had on June 10, 2023, invaded the residence of Emeka Oneyi and Ugochukwu of Demsawo where they extorted a phone valued at N65,000 and the sum of N7,500.

He said during investigations, the defendants had mentioned Ibrahim Mallam and Sabiu Musa who are now at large as their accomplices.

Inspector Nicholas told the court that the investigation was yet to be completed because other suspects were still at large.

Magistrate Alheri Ishaku remanded Marwan and Iliyasu for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, housebreaking and theft.

She subsequently adjourned the two cases to July 10, 2023, for further mention.
