Two men, Bankole Olawale (32) and Fabiyi Kehinde (40), were on Monday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged burglary and stealing.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, were facing a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendants and one other at large, committed the offences on Feb. 2, 2020; March 13, 2020, May 15, 2020; Aug. 20, 2020 and Dec. 13, 2020.
Akinwale said the offences were committed at 8.30 p.m. at Maryland Avenue, behind NTA Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that Bankole Olawale and one other at large broke into the house of one Fasua Bamidele, between 7.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m.
Akinwale alleged that the defendant stole one LG plasma television valued at N85 000, five pairs of shoes valued N150,000, jewelries valued N350,000 and Samsung home theatre valued at N300,000.
Other items allegedly stolen included clothes valued at N150, 000, 12-inch by 4 1/2 mattress valued at N85,000, belonging to the complainant.
Akinwale also stated that Fabiyi Kehinde, at different times and dates, received the stolen items from Bankole Olawale.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 412, 411, 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ekiti, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The plea of the first defendant was not taken, while that of the second defendant was taken.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Olayemi Olatunde, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adedayo Oyebanji, ordered that the first defendant be remanded at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti, pending issuance of legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Oyebanji granted bail to the second defendant in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must produce the ownership of a landed property and adjourned the case until Jan. 14 for mention.
