19 dead in clash with bandits in Kogi
At least 19 individuals tragically lost their lives, with many others injured in a violent confrontation between militia groups in parts of aBenue State and bandits in Agojeju-Odo, Ajokpachi-Odo, Bagaji, and surrounding areas in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to eyewitnesses, the conflicts resulted in destruction of farm produce, exacerbating the already dire food crisis.
Retired Commodore Jerry Omodara, Special Adviser on Security to Gov. Usman Ododo, confirmed the incident, condemning the senseless loss of innocent lives. Governor Ododo has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
Although the situation has since calmed down with the deployment of security operatives, significant damage to property, including houses, vehicles, and crops, has been reported.
The Police spokesman in Kogi, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, also confirmed the attack and assured that security measures have been reinforced to prevent further violence.
A joint tactical response team comprising the police, military and vigilance groups have been deployed, and investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice for the victims.
