18 political parties to participate in February Kebbi LG elections — KSIEC 

The Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KSIEC), on Wednesday said that all the 18 registered political parties will participate in the forthcoming Local Government elections in the state.

Alhaji Mustapha Usman-Kaoje, Commissioner II, Publicity and Voter Education, disclosed this while briefing journalists in his office in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

Recall that the commission had in consultation with political stakeholders, including political party representatives, fixed Feb. 5, 2022, for the conduct of Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in the state.

Recall also that the announcement was made public through a press briefing shortly after a closed door meeting with all political stakeholders held in the commission’s office on Nov. 2, 2021.

Usman-Kaoje said: “All the 18 registered political parties in Nigeria have indicated interest to participate in the 2022 Local Government elections in Kebbi State, only that some parties were not able to submit the names of their candidates in all the elective positions.

“The commission closed the collection of names of candidates by political parties on Tuesday, Jan. 11 by 12:00 midnight.

“I want to use this medium to assure the electorate that arrangements are in top gear to ensure hitch-free Local Government elections.”

He appealed to the people of the state to continue to be law-abiding citizens as the commission is doing everything possible towards ensuring just, free and fair elections.
