17-year-old girl stabs, kills foster mother in Ondo
Tragedy occurred in the Oda axis of Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State during the week following the alleged killing of a 54-year-old civil servant, Mrs Funmilayo Adelayi by her 17-year-old foster daughter identified as Wunmi.
The suspect who fled home after committing the crime was apprehended by the police following the discovery of the decomposing body of Adelayi at her three-bedroom bungalow along Superjet Road, Premier Estate, off Oda Road.
It was gathered that the body was found by her neighbours who were curious to know her whereabout after they noticed her absence.
According to one of her neighbours, who craved anonymity, Adelayi returned from her Ministry of Finance office on March 13, where she attended the inauguration of a new Permanent Secretary in her Ministry before she returned home to meet her untimely death upon arrival.
Another resident said, the odour emanating from the residence attracted attention, leading them to force the gate and doors of the building open under the supervision of police operatives.
He said the remains were visible through the window when her car was discovered parked inside the compound while her foster daughter was missing.
Wunmi, a secondary school student, was said to have been withdrawn from Fiwasaye Girls College, Akure, due to medical challenges, after which, she was transferred to a private school in Akure, where she continued her education and had reached SS 2.
The deceased was said to have been advised to return the girl to her parents because of the issue but she refused, feeling the girl needed adequate medical treatment.
“How can one be living with a person with a mental problem? That is the problem. You can see blood everywhere from her bedroom to the living room as she struggled to get out and find help, but because the doors were shut against her, she could not make it.
“The knife her attacker used to kill her was found beside her. This is really very sad.”
The Police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the incident, said the teenager had been arrested while investigation has commenced.
