16th Convocation: Redeemer’s varsity graduates 1,442 students
In a remarkable display of academic excellence, Redeemer’s University, Ede, will graduate 1,442 students during its 16th convocation ceremony scheduled for October 10.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shadrach Akindele announced at a press conference that 86 students will be awarded first-class degrees, marking a significant milestone for the institution.
Prof. Akindele detailed the distribution of degrees, noting that 435 students will graduate with second-class upper division honours, while 319 will receive second-class lower division degrees.
Also, 86 graduates will receive third-class degrees, and 13 students will be awarded pass degrees.
Highlighting achievements in specialised programs, the VC noted that within the nursing and physiotherapy fields, three students will graduate with “pass with distinction,” 69 with “pass with credit,” and 25 with a “pass.”
In the diploma category, three students will graduate with distinction, alongside 14 in the upper credit division and five in the lower credit division.
“Two students will be graduating as the best graduating students with the same Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.96,” Prof. Akindele revealed, emphasising the high academic standards maintained by the university.
For the first time, Redeemer’s University will confer degrees in Architecture, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, broadening its academic offerings.
At the postgraduate level, the university will graduate 387 students, including 33 PhD candidates, three MPhil graduates, and 215 master’s degree recipients.
The VC also announced that the university will honour two distinguished Nigerians with honorary degrees for their significant contributions to the institution and society at large.
“Our mission is to produce graduates who are not only skilled in their respective fields but also possess the character and moral fortitude to lead with integrity and humility,” Akindele stated.
He further noted that this year’s graduating class, dubbed the “More Than Conqueror set,” embodies resilience and determination, having navigated through various academic challenges and personal growth to reach this important milestone.
In a related event to the convocation festivities, Prof. Akindele highlighted the achievements of the university’s African Centre of Excellence in Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), led by Prof. Christian Happi, which has secured additional funding for research into human and zoonotic genomics.
