105 persons affected as fire outbreak razes down 46 shops and stalls in Damaturu market – SEMA
Yobe Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, says the early morning fire outbreak at the popular shopping district in Damaturu, the state capital, has razed down 46 shops and stalls.
This it said, has affected approximately 105 business operators.
“Further investigations and assessments are ongoing to determine the full scale of the damage and identify urgent relief measures”, the Agency said.
The actual cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, however, some residents suspected a power surge at about 3:20 AM, today.
After receiving a distress call, Personnel of the Yobe State Fire Service rushed to the scene and put out the fire to avoid further escalation to nearby shops and houses.
Fire outbreaks frequently occur during harmattan season in this part of the country and mostly affect markets and residential areas.
