100 artisans benefit from Olumo Rotary Club free reading glasses

100 artisans have emerged as beneficiaries of the free reading glasses donated by the Rotary Club of Olumo Sunrise.
The club donated the glasses to members of the Association of Professional Printers of Nigeria (ASSPON) as a gesture in commemoration of the Adult Literacy programme as part of the outlined activities of the Rotary International.
President of the Club, Comrade (Rotn) Olamide Lawal who enlightened the artisans on the importance of eye Care, maintained that the eyes serve as the light to the whole body.
According to him, “Medical and Health Care is one of the seven Areas of focus of Rotary, that’s why we are here to present reading glasses to you, because we know how essential eyes are to your printing business and our existence as a whole.”
An Opthamologist, Dr Saliu urged the beneficiaries to avoid excessive intake of salt, so as to avoid high blood pressure. He encouraged them to carry out eye check-ups in any registered hospital, at least once every year.
“It’s advisable to check the eyes, at least once in a year, so as to know the condition of the eyes, because as one ages, the eyes tend to get older,” He explained
The doctor who cited relevant examples of challenges associated with not checking up on the eyes, noted that proper care for the eyes is a very critical part of Healthcare.
“I remember consulting an optician when I noticed eye problems and he advised that I buy drugs and also purchased recommended glasses. But due to the fact that I wasn’t a fan of eye glasses, I decided not to buy the glasses, so I opted for only drugs. And when the problem became incessant, I went back to the hospital, unfortunately the doctor said I must use the glasses.
“However, if I had got the glasses the first time I visited the hospital, I would have used the glasses only for the maximum of a year, but as it was the second time he checked, he said he is not even sure that even if I use it for twenty years, that the eyes will come back to the way it used to be. So, at that time, I had no option, than to buy the glasses.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Adenike Adegbite appreciated the Rotary club while also appealing for more of such interventions from well meaning Clubs in the society.
“I sincerely thank the Rotary Club for this privilege and we will not forget their kind gesture,”.
Another beneficiary, Hassan Ojelade also encouraged the club to keep up its good works.
ASSPON chairman, Abeokuta branch, Mr Olubode Makinde thanked the club noting that the outreach was educative seminar and commendable.
