Tekobo”, is a Yoruba words which literally means, come from Lagos. Among several aspirants who have signified their intention to be governor of Ogun State in 2019, is the current Senator representing Lagos West senatorial district in the Senate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Yayi.
Recently, at a function, Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle . Amosun equally vowed that Tekobo or imported politicians, literally referring to politicians who claimed to be of Ogun State origin but currently playing their politics in Lagos, with their steadfast gaze on the State governorship race to better drop the idea as the citizens of the state are more civilized and enlightened to vote for an impostor.
Already, the party members who are very loyal to the cause of the category of these imported politicians have been seen as traitors and are no longer in the good books of the ruling government in the state.
Analysts believe that , Senator Olamilekan Adeola currently representing Lagos West Senatorial District at the Senate is one principal chief of these set of imported politicians. The Senator who claimed he is from Pahayi, near Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government had not left anybody in doubt of his seriousness to succeed the
incumbent in 2019.
Yayi as the astute Chartered Accountant is fondly called has remained unperturbed with the label of an ‘’imported politician’’ and has continued to mobilize support for the actualization of his dream. The lawmaker is also said to be enjoying the backing of the National Leader of APC and former governor of Lagos State, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His portrait no doubt seems to loom very large and popular among those gathering momentum to take over from Sen. Amosun in two years’ time, but the complexity and intrigues
of politics require much more than than popularity, goodwill and even sincerity of purpose to make one’s mark or achieve a political dream.
Analysts are of the opinion that, the Senator has the serious hurdles of picking the governorship primary ticket of APC to contend with and win if his aspiration to govern the state on the platform of APC is to be achieved. This is hinged on the fact that governorship primaries of political parties in the country are done the long list of the party executives and some other elected members drawn from the local government to the national 80% of who are being controlled by the sitting governor.
It is of the opinion that except the party structure which is currently under the armpit of Gov. Amosun is wrestled from him, it may be a bit difficult for the lawmaker to achieve his dream of ruling the state on the platform of APC. Many are also of the opinion that with the degree of followership and goodwill the lawmaker
currently commands within the APC circle in the State, any unfair treatment meted out to frustrate him out of the race will also not leave the ruling party any better.
In the meantime, Governor Amosun has reportedly declared his support for the quest of Yewa Division to produce the governor for the very first time since the state creation 41 years ago.
Among the governorship aspirants from the zone include Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, who had previously contested for the governorship twice, losing to Amosun on both occasions, a three-time member of House of Representatives, Hon Abiodun Akinlade, the Chief of Staff to Ogun State governor, Chief Tolu Odebiyi, a business mogul, Chief Kola Lawal popularly called KLM and Senator Olamilekan aka Yayi who hails from Pahayi, a village in Yewa South local government.
