Portugal captain and winner of the 2017 Ballon d’Or, Cristiano Ronaldo, has declared himself the best footballer in history.
Ronaldo said this after collecting the Ballon d’Or for the fifth time on Thursday.
The Real Madrid superstar beat Lionel Messi to the award organised by France Football magazine, equaling the Barcelona forward’s haul of five awards.
Messi and Ronaldo have won the last 10 Ballon d’Or awards between them and heated debates over who is the best player between the duo.
The great Pele and Diego Maradona are also often mentioned as the best players in history but Ronaldo believes he is better than all of them.
“I don’t see anyone better than me,” Ronaldo, 32, told France Football.
“No player does things that I cannot do myself, but I see things others can’t do. There’s no more complete player than me. I’m the best player in history — in the good and the bad moments.”
