Nigeria customs service (NCS) has said 1870 bags of foreign rice and 43 kegs of vegetable oil worth N12.3 million was apprehended at sango rice market in ogun state.
The NCS denied carting away N375 million worth of goods alleged by rice dealers.
speaking with Nigerian NewsDirect shortly after the incident, the public relation officer, NCS Mr. Jerry Attah explained to our correspondent that ” the operation started at about 1am in the morning after they got an hint of the ware house were the goods was stored carting away seven trucks of rice and 43 kegs of vegetable oil
“we decided to carry out the operation in the middle of the night so as to avoid any casualty.
it will be recalled that February last year the NCS raided the Sango Ota area of Ogun state in pursue of smugglers of contraband rice, leaving a young girl dead.
