Uproar in the early hours erupted on Monday in Ogwashi Uku, Delta state following the alleged killing of a youth identified as Christian Mordi by Vigilante men.
It was gathered that the victim was said to have hailed from Ashama Community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state and was a motorcycle rider in Ogwashi Uku Community where he was allegedly killed by Vigilante men when he tried to escape from the men who gave him a hot chase when he allegedly crashed into an oncoming vehicle along Isah Ogwashi Uku road
Sources said that the Vigilante men had attempted to hit him with the butt of their gun when they levelled up with him as he was beating severely for his attempt to escape them a situation he managed to escaped but crashed into moving vehicle that crushed him to death
But when confronted, the leader of the Vigilante men, Sunday Benson denied all allegations against the group, saying that the victim died as he crashed into a coming vehicle with his motorcycle when he was escaping for his offence for ridding one way adding that the victim had severally been warned before the incident and his refusal to heed to warnings.
In a swift reaction, the police Commissioner in the state, Adeleke Adeyinka who spoke to Journalists on the incident, said investigation was ongoing with a view to bringing the culprits to book including conducting autopsy for the deceased and warned that the police will do everything possible to ensure the truth in the incident
It was further gathered some youths had taken to the streets of Ogwashi Uku town immediately the incident, calling for the investigation in the death of the young man who they described was easy going
Meanwhile, residents of Emmanuel Anglican Church Ikelike round about in Ogwashi Uku town are currently under severe attack of armed robbers who recently raided them and allegedly made away with some money and their belongings
But the Police Officers at the Ogwashi Uku Police Division who spoke to Journalists on condition of anonymity said that the Suspects were arrested and are currently being detained for further investigation adding that they will be charged to court on the Completion of investigation.
Some residents of the area, one of them, Nicholas Nnamdi however appealed to the Police to redouble their efforts in ensuring they can sleep with their two eyes closed, disclosing that the armed bandits had consistently been raiding them in the recent times and made away with their belongings
