Palpable tension and fear of the unknown have continued to unsettle residents of Niger- Cat area in Ekpan Community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta state following the oil spillage resulting from raptured pipeline allegedly being operated by Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited ( HEOSL) currently posing dangers to the residents of the area.
Investigation revealed that the pipeline was said to have raptured over some weeks ago and nothing was done to allay the fear of the residents of the area by authorities concerned but huge quantity of Crude oil was gushing out as the time of this report at the weekend with surroundings including residential buildings taken over
But a resident of the area, Benson Otomiewo who spoke to our reporter said that the crude oil flowed like water into various compounds in the neighborhood contaminating their lands, water and had destroyed their crops and aquatic life, noting that worst hit was a private property under construction belonging to one Austin Wareyai whose building shares boundary with the faulty facility and explained that the crude oil forced its way into the compound through the fence and took over the compound forcing construction work to stop.
Owner of the property, Austin Wareyai who spoke to Journalists on the incident, lamented that the spillage had forced him to stop construction works on the building which was near completion and appealed to the state government to come to his aid as millions of money was invested in the ongoing building, adding” hundreds of lives and property worth billions of naira will be lost should there be any fire outbreak as the affected area is close to filling station”
He alleged that he had written series of letters to Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited (HEOSL) to clean up the affected areas and their letters had remained untended and however appealed to the Federal and Delta state Governments , authorities of the NNPC, WRPC , PPMC among others to prevail on the management of HEOSL to urgently carry it out an elaborate clean up the area.
Meanwhile, the General Manager, Community Relations of Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited HEOSL) Sylvester Oko when contacted declined comments but manage to say” I appreciate you for reaching out to me but unfortunately I am not in a position to speak on that because that purely HSC element, and secondly, engaging with the Press is exclusive to our Corporate Office in Lagos but I will see how we can help after getting in touch with my people in Lagos”
