… generates N1.26bn in 2 months
The Seme area Customs command on Wednesday said it has arrested a fake youth corp member with a Nigerian diplomatic number 138CD18 at the border post on Tuesday.
The CAC of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Garba said the suspect claimed to be a corper and he has made allegations against high level place personnel in the country, including an embassy.
He also disclosed that he has the personal phone number of the inspector general of police and other hierarchy in the country.
Uba speaking with journalists at the Seme command said the suspect was passing through Seme border on Sunday.
According to him, the suspect was bringing in a vehicle, and was stopped by intelligent customs officer
He claimed to have passed through the border on Sunday, that he went to drop somebody somewhere.
In his words, “So, we ask him which documents do you use to pass and he brought out his phone that he has the phone number of the inspector general and I told him that is not possible.
“After search was done on the vehicle, documents were found in the vehicle that stated that the vehicle is premerer and with a plate number KJA 461 FP. The vehicle is Renault model.”
Uba added that “he had a paper on him that if you intercept him is either you allow him to pass or call the Inspector General of police or call the foreign Affairs.
“So when we asked him who he is, he brought out his identity card, 2014 NYSC. We asked him NYSC is just one year, what happened and his response was that he has an issue that is why he was carrying the ID card.
“We call the director of NYSC to confirm the issue in such cases but the director said in such cases, they do collect the old ID card and will issue a new one to the person which is the current year and that is why we arrested him for further questioning.”
Speaking with Nigerian NewsDirect, the suspect, Usman Abdulumar said “I didn’t say I have the number ofthe inspector general of police or have any connection with anybody.”
Usman disclosed that the person he took to Ghana with the car which he identify as Samuel used his passport and he stamp it and we are allowed to pass the border post.
Also when he was asked why he claimed to be a youth corper, he said “I served in 2015 at Kaduna but I have not collected my NYSC certificate that is why I have not returned the identity card because I have issues with NYSC and I have not cleared it.”
Usman added that he did not clear the car for anybody and that owner of the car is coming from Lagos and the diplomatic number was placed on the car from Abuja.
Meanwhile, Uba also disclosed to journalists that the command generated the sum of N1.26 billion in two months.
“Similarly the intensified operation of the enforcement unit has drastically reduced smuggling activities to the barest minimum.”
Among seizures include 4745 bags of 50kg foreign rice which is equivalent to over 8 trucks with DPV 85, 504, 000, 68 parcels of Tramadol with DPV of N918, 000 and 10 parcels of cannabis which was handed over to the NDLEA, 180 sacks of scrap metals in Volvo FL7 truck with DPV of N8, 505, 000 were intercepted along Owode axis and other exotic cars
