Rivers: NPA trains 40 host communities youths in skills acquisition


…Donates starter packs to graduates

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)to the host communities of her operational area, the Nigerian Ports Authority(NPA),Area 2,Onne Rivers State,has donated equipment worth millions of Naira to graduates of its skills acquisition programmes numbering over 40.

The host communities that  benefited in the trainings that cut across seafaring, catering and fashion and design were Onñe in Eleme Local Government Area and Ogu in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area all in Rivers State.

Addressing the graduates during the presentation of the starter packs in Onne,the NPA Port Manager in Area 2 Onne,Alhassan Ismaila Abubakar said the major aim of the programme was to produce “products producers who in one way  or the other will at their little level of operation employ one or two persons in their services, thereby creating more job opportunities for others”.

The Port Manager who said the training is in line with the Corporate Social Responsibility of NPA, pointed out that the trainees’ services will be useful locally,nationally and even internationally.

Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the level of healthy relationship that exist between her and its  host communities, appealed for its sustenance.

Abubakar who doubles as the chairman of the Joint Free Zone Community Relations Initiative (JEZCRI), said the programme was to ensure peace in the port’s operations area and the communities.

He described the port operators  “as the purpose for which we are here”,noting that the Federal Government sees the government agencies as their eyes in each port zone and therefore should serve as a catalyst to national development. This he said makes it necessary to ensure peaceful business activities at all times.

The Port Manager assured that he will do his best to ensure that neither operators nor host communities are denied their rights during his tenure.

In his goodwill message, the Paramount Ruler of Onne Community, HRM,John Osaronu commended the NPA Management for their excellent Community Relations policy.

Represented by Prince (Dr) Jima Osaronu, he urged the NPA Management to sustain the relationship. The Royal Father promised that his community will continue to cooperate with NPA to ensure peaceful coexistence between them.

Also speaking, the Paramount Ruler of Ogu, HRM Nicholas Ibiebele  Neminibo, Loko IIX expressed happiness with the current NPA leadership, describing them as remarkable.

King Neminibo who was  represented by Comrd Cassius Abbi pledged that he will monitor the usage of the donated equipment to ensure that they are put to proper use.

He described the event as having unified the youths of Ogu and Onne communities for the first time.

Earlier the Chairman Planning Committee of the event, Mr Stephen Ohuche Ewa had applauded the NPA Management under the leadership of the Port Manager, Abubakar  for allowing JEZCRI to organize the programme, which he said will elevate the status of the beneficiaries.

Highlight of the occasion was presentation of  certificates,starter packs and gifts to the graduands.
