Rivers govt blames NPA for deplorable East-West road

The Rivers State Government has blamed the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and other federal agencies operating along Eleme section of the East-West road for the deplorable state of the road.

Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Mr. Emeka Woke, at an event in Port Harcourt alleged that many federal government agencies operating along Eleme axis of the road have refused to pay up their share of the agreed sum needed to fund the road project.

Woke, however, said the state government will ensure that the road is fixed in the interest of the ordinary citizens using that road.

According to him, “That section (of East-West road) from Eleme Junction to Onne-Trailer Park Junction that is extremely bad was estimated at over N3 billion; the Rivers State government did not hesitate in making its own commitment of N.8 billion to RCC.

“Indorama-Eleme Petrochemicals Limited and Integrated Logistics, INTELS, and a few other companies also made that commitment, but unfortunately and regrettably the Nigerian Ports Authority which is a federal government agency and other federal government agencies along that road declined making commitment,” he said.
