Niger Delta Youth Council of Nigeria, NDYCN, has berated the National Assembly for rejecting restructuring of the country, saying it was an affront on the Nigeria’s unity. He added that the National Assembly’s rejection of the restructuring of the country amounted to the rejection of the unity of Nigeria.
President of the group, Mr Daniel Etaga, who spoke to newsmen in Asaba, Delta State, said the action of the lawmakers meant that the Niger Delta enjoyed high level of poverty, underdevelopment, disharmony, killings and other social crises that have bedevilled the country. Etaga said: “We are extremely disappointed and disturbed by this setback as its consequences will be unbearable to the Nigerian government and the nation at large.
The only opportunity to have a leverage in our economy has again be stalled by some unscrupulous elements who never wish Nigeria well.” “We will mobilise our subjects to revolt against this oppression that will never end.
Without ‘restructuring’ the constitution amendment currently going on has failed and does not achieve what Nigerians are yearning for.” He urged the lawmakers to have a rethink and go back to drawing board “as this will threaten the peace and unity currently being enjoyed. The legislatures are joking with Nigeria unity.”
