Police arrest nine notorious robbery suspects in Abuja

The Nigeria Police High Command has arrested nine notorious armed robbery suspects, allegedly terrorising the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Stolen cars and other operational tools were recovered from them.

A source at the police headquarters told The Guardian that the gang was busted following intelligence received by the Inspector General of police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.

According to the source, “Upon receipt of complaints from one Pastor Davies and several residents of Mabushi area of FCT, IGP Ibrahim Idris directed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to track and apprehend the culprits, who were terrorising the FCT and its environs.

“IRT operatives immediately launched a massive manhunt against the robbers and eventually, on May 22, one of the gang members, Lawal Peter; 25 years old, was arrested with one of the stolen Infinix Hot note Phone.

“Peter confessed to the armed robbery and led IRT operatives to their hideout in Mabushi, FCT, Abuja, where the following gang members, Emmanuel Adole 26- year-old native of Otukpo, Benue State, who sold the robbed Camry of the pastor for N400, 000, one Ojuma Onoja, 24-year-old native of Kogi State, who was in possession of the two phones and a gold wrist watch belonging to the pastor; Danjuma Mohammed 30 , Dickson Uche ,21-year-old native of Abia State and Ali Abdul 24-year-old native of Kano State, were arrested.

“They were all arrested in Mabushi, FCT Abuja. All the suspects confessed to several armed robberies in Abuja and led IRT operatives to Akwa Ibom and Cross River states on May 27, where the following gang-members were also arrested: Friday Emmanuel 28 years, Akaninyene Etukdo 32, Ikechukwu John, 32, and Joe Effiong, 28.

“One Samsung Galaxy, one Infinix Hotnote, one Nokia phone, a gold wrist watch and Toyota Camry 2010 model belonging to the pastor and six other stolen cars were recovered from the robbers.

“Their operational house breaking and car jacking tools were also recovered. Efforts to arrest the remaining fleeing gang members and recovery of more stolen goods is in progress,” he said.
