The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Prof. Wale Oladipo on Monday said the Appeal Court ruling, which pronounced Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff as the Chairman of the Party, has produced neither vanquish nor victor.
Oladipo in a telephone chat with newsmen maintained that despite the fact that the court’s verdict was a welcome development to him, he still believes that the unity of the party remains paramount and non-negotiable.
He explained that the greatest task before the party at the moment is complete reconciliation of leadership and membership of the party across board.
According to him, Sen. Sheriff and his group have started robust consultation among party stakeholders and leaders all over the country.
“The Appeal Court verdict to us does not suggest a victor or a vanquish in any way, in as much as we consider the judgement a welcome development, we still believe that unity of the party is key.
” What is dear to our heart now is complete reconciliation of the leadership and membership of the party all over the country.
“We have already embarked on consultation among party stakeholders and leaders around the country, to ensure the cohesion and unity of the party,” Oladipo averred.
Meanwhile, the party stalwart has debunked the perception in some quarters that the PDP has become so much fragmented in Osun State, and becoming too weak to wrestle power from the ruling APC in the state.
He described such perception as an imagination of its proponents, saying “the party is as strong and focused as ever”.
Oladipo, who hailed from Ile-ife, and a former Chairman of Osun State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) noted that the party is more than ready and fit to contest and win the the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun.
” PDP members in Osun firmly believe in the leadership strength of the State Chairman, Mr Soji Adagunodo, he has the requisite leadership capacity to lead the party to victory come 2018.
“We understand the fact that some members of the party are aggrieved, but that does not mean that the party is fragmented, we are working assiduously to reconcile all interests and move forward,” he said.
