The Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief (Dr) Femi Olaifa is dead.
Olaifa, according a source who pleaded not to be named while confirming the story to DAILY POST Friday morning, said that Chief Olaifa passed on at the University College Hospital (UCH), Thursday evening.
Dr. Olaifa, a Veterinary Doctor by profession was an Adviser to former President, Sheu Sagari during the Second Republic and was thereafter appointed as a Minister but without portfolio.
However, when contacted to speak on the matter, a close aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland said he will not disclose whether the High Chief is dead or alive. He said that the family of the deceased has not informed the palace about the development.
He, thereafter, directed our correspondent to the family house of the High Chief at Idi-Aro area of the ancient city, saying “it is the family that will inform the Olubadan at the palace.”
When contacted, Public Relations Officer of UCH, Mr. Femi Bobade informed our correspondent that he is not aware of the news.
Bobade, however, declared that he was not authorize to break such news to journalists.
He said that even if the story was true, he will not disclose, stating that only the family of the High Chief has the right to issue such statement.
But another close source at the Popoyemoja Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji told newsmen that Chief Olaifa has passed away.
The source who bagged not to be mentioned informed our correspondent that, “though palace is yet to officially received the news, yes, he has died.
“Yes he is dead, but the palace has not been informed. It is after the palace has been officially informed that such news will be officially broken.”
