The Commissioner of police in Ogun state, CP Bashir Makama said that three kidnapping suspects were on Wednesday gun down during a gun battle with men of Special Anti Robbery Squad of the state command.
CP Bashir Makama made this disclosure while parading two kidnapping suspects who were arrested in connection with three people said to have been kidnapped at Ode Omi, a riverine community in Ogun Waterside local government during Eid-delkabir festival held two weeks ago.
The Commissioner of police said though, the three kidnap victims whose names were given as Admson Bamidele, Adam Jelil and Sanni Azeez had been rescued by the police last week but efforts to arrest those behind the dastardly acts had been futile with kidnapping gang injuring four policemen when they tried to advance to their hideout in the creeks.
He added that the perseverance of the police eventually paid off when four members of the gang who thought the police had gone their way came out from the creeks and were arrested. Items recovered from them were two cut to size guns, four live cartridges, one cylinder, one boat engine and charms.
Makama however explained that while the suspects were being brought to the state command, Eleweran, Abeokuta by SARS officers, some colleagues of the kindnaping gang who had laid ambush for the police between Abigi and J4 opened fire on the police with the intent to free the alleged kindnaping suspects.
He disclosed further that during this gun duel with the attackers, two out of the four kidnap suspects were killed with one attackers while others escaped with gun shots.
The CP said the police had launched manhunt for the fleeing criminals while hospital and members of the public should not hesitate to report whoever they see with gun shots.
Makama commended Inspector General of Police, Idris Adamu for providing the police with the helicopter which he said has really helped in smoking out the kidnappers from their den adding that the support of the state government to rid the state of criminals was also commendable.
The police boss vowed not to give breathing space to the criminals in the state saying that people with criminal tendencies should either repent or be crushed.
