Accord Party in Ogun State was recently said to have shut its door to Sen. Buruji Kasahamu representing Ogun East at the Senate insisting that his alleged controversial fugitive status and poor integrity rating would spell doom for the fledgling party in the State. A source within the party who craved for anonymity confirmed this to NewsDirect. The Senator was said to be shopping for a new party following the intractable leadership crisis that has engulfed the opposition party in the State.
The embattled Senator is the leader of the Bayo Dayo led PDP executives that has for some time been embroiled in leadership crisis with another group led by Hon. Sikirulahi Ogundele, former Chairman of Ifo local government.
Sen. Buruji Kashamu was said to have allegedly come to the negotiating table with a monthly trailer load of Indomie and five million naira subvention for the party but was outrightly rejected by the leadership of the party.
The source informed our Correspondent that as tempting as the offer seems to be to the young party, the acceptance of controversial figure like the Senator would cast a smear on the integrity of the party and would in no time reverse the prospect and even the appreciable progress the party has consistently made since the party was launched in the State early this year.
The source explained further that ‘’ it is not that we don’t want people in the party but as the party for the Omoluwabis, we want credible people, people with no baggage or anything that could count against us or dim our electoral success ‘’
One of the aides of the Senator and Chairman of the PDP in OgunEast, Prince Daisi Akintan has however debunked this allegation saying it was nothing but outright falsehood. Speaking to our Correspondent, Prince Akintan explained that ‘’ I can authoritatively tell you that the information is not true, in fact it is even the leadership of Accord Party that is trying to form alliance with us. We are very much on ground as I have always told you, we are not leaving PDP for any party, anything different to this are just baseless rumour and lack substance’’
NewsDirect also gathered that the party is also currently considering zoning its governorship ticket to Ogun West and may eventually settled for Prince Gboyega Isiaka who had contested twice for the office above Sen. Adeola Solomon fondly called Yayi representing Lagos West at the Senate.
The spokesman for Accord party in the State, Asoju Oba Michael Adesanya could however not be reached for comment as at the time of filing this report as calls to his mobile phone were not connecting while textmessage to his phone was also not replied.
