Ogun 2019: Amosun warn Monarchs to be wary of desperate politicians

Bukola Adeyinka, Abeokuta

Ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial election, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has warned traditional rulers across the State to be wary of desperate  politicians that would be visiting for royal blessings against the coming general elections

He said that, traditional rulers are God Fathers to all  politicians, therefore, they should not be dragged  into the murky waters of politics.

The Governor made this known on Friday at the Innuguration of Oba Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and paramount ruler of Egba Land  as the chairman of Ogun State Council of Obas.

He said “In spite of the encroachment of Western values, beliefs and ideas, Yoruba have continued to progress in many areas of our socio-economic endeavour. One major factor that is responsible for this is that the Yoruba people have been able to sustain and maintain our traditional and cultural values, norms, ideas and beliefs. In all this, we must appreciate the important roles our revered traditional rulers in Yorubaland have continued to play.

He then urged  Royal Fathers to pursue peace and rapid development of the State, as the 2019 General Elections are fast approaching, adding that it has become necessary for  Royal Fathers to admonish their subjects and the youths to eschew violence, before, during and after the elections.

“Our people should see the electoral exercise as a peaceful process that will be used to recruit good leaders in government who will in turn provide good governance to our people.

“On our part as a government, we will ensure that peace, law and order are always maintained throughout the period of the General Elections and at all times, Amosun said.
