OGD assassination accusation  against Kashamu divides Ogun PDP

By Bankole Taiwo

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun State assumed another dimension last week with the cry of the former governor of the State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel that Senator Buruji Kashamu representing Ogun East at the Senate was allegedly after his life.

This allegation was coming weeks after the duo exchanged brickbats over the leadership feud rocking the party. In a petition written to the Inspector General of Police and which was copiously circulated on the social media, the former governor claimed that some assailants allegedly armed to the teeth stormed his Abuja residence last Thursday demanding to see him.

H alleged further that, despite the fact that his gateman told the unwanted visitors that he was not at home, they still forced their way but one of the policemen who the assailants thought had been beaten to the game was able to foil the assassination attempt.

The erstwhile governor  maintained that he however believed that Senator Kashamu was the reason behind the attempt on his life as his disdain and acrimonious disposition to his person was in the public domain. Otunba Gbenga Daniel revealed that since his political disagreement with Senator Kashamu about eight years ago he had never stopped maligning his character at every given opportunity and that there was a time he allegedly claimed in a national newspaper that he spent over three billion naira to destabilize and destroy his administration.

He explained that that the latest offensive of the Senator was unconnected with the recent Supreme Court judgment which put his backed Bayo Dayo led executives of the party in the State at a disadvantage and therefore losing political relevance in the state. He disclosed that he was actually at Ibadan on the day of the incident with the Caretaker National Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Markarfi  and reconciliation committee members of the party.

The former governor has therefore requested for more security protection around him and his family while the security agencies in the country must also put the Senator  under strict security surveillance and should also hold him responsible should anything untoward happen to him .

However in a statement issued by the Media Adviser to the Ijebu Igbo-born politician, Austin Oniyokor, the governor was said to only be running away from his shadow given the alleged killings and violence that characterized his administration while serving as the governor of the State.

Senator Kashamu stated that ” clearly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel is hallucinating and afraid of his shadow, he is only desperate to score cheap political point and seek relevance for his dimming political career with this false alarm, what a childish way to play politics”.

The statement disclosed further that the Senator with his God given resources is known to be fighting his political battles in the court of law saying that the former governor’s alleged attempt on his life was not only spurious, baseless but a hoax.
