Offshore West Africa hosts a record-breaking audience in Lagos

The 20th anniversary of Offshore West Africa Conference and Exhibition, which took place between 26th and 28th January, 2016 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos Nigeria, played host to a recording-breaking attendance for the 2nd year in succession. With over 2,700 visitors and delegates from more than 40 countries around the world.

The 20th anniversary of this prestigious event was well received, and plans for the 2017 event to take place in Lagos have already started. Owned and managed by PennWell Corporation, under the auspices of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), endorsed by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Nigeria, Offshore West Africa once again addressed key technology and development issues for the West African Offshore oil and gas market, through a comprehensive educational conference programme and a three-day exhibition with the theme ” Positioning for Sustainable Future”.

The sponsors of the event are: Diamond Sponsor, Total,Gold sponsor, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), and others such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, Westfield Subsea, ABS, Royal ICH, JC International limited, Tilone Subsea, Ariosh, the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and the Niger Delta Science, Technology and Bioenterprise Development.

The event kicked off with the opening plenary session with just under 350 people with standing room only, including a welcome and introduction by Mr. David Pananie, editor-in-chief, Offshore Magazine, PennWell Corporation, followed by opening remarks by Mr. Nicolas Terraz, Managing Director and Executive, Total E and P Nigeria. Keynote address by Mr. Alexander K.M. Mould, chief Executive Officer, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and Dr. Gloria Elemo, Director General, Federal Institute of Food and Industrial Research Oshodi, Nigeria, plus ExxonMobil Energy Outlook, Mr. Oladotun Isiaka, general manager, Deepwater Operations and Joint Interest Assets,Esso Explorationa and Production Nigeria. Also during the opening plenary was a special awared presented to Mr. Bayo Ojulari, Managing Director, Shell Nigeria and Exploration Company ( SNEPCo), as an appreciation for 20 years of support for the Offshore West Africa event. The official opening of the 2016 exhibition took place via a ribbon cutting by the speaker of the openig plenary session, joined by Mr. Glenn Ensor, Managing Director PennWell International.

Following the official opening, a panel discussion took place on the topic of “investing in Africa”. Among the panel discussion were Miss. Rolake Akinkugbe, Vice President and head, Energy and natural Resourecs, FBN capital, Nigeria and Mr. David M. Rennie, International Sector head, Oil and Gas, Thermal Generation and Carbon Capture and Storage, Scotish Enterprise, United Kingdom. Over the three days, the two track conference scheduled includes many interesting and informative sessions, including a number of industry’s critical topics such as Subsea Technology, Sustainable Development, Asset Integrity, Deepwater Projects, Field. Development, Flowlines and Pipelines, Deepwater Trends and. Challenges, Major Project management, Production Optimization and Regional Trends and Challenges.

The final Panel discussion was on the topic, ” Strategies for Local, Regional and International Collaboration and Effective Local Content Delivery” which took place yesterday 28th January, and with a lively interactive session. Among the panelists were Mr. Jide Jadesimi, Executive Director, Business Development, LADOL, Nigeria; Mr. Kwaku Boateng, Director of Special Services, Petroleum Commission, Ghana, Mr. Tosin Yusuff, Country Director-Nigeria, Africa Energy Association, Mr. Chiedu Oba, General Manager, Nigeria Content Development and SPDC CP Manager, the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria and Mr. Paul Zuhumben, General Manager, Project and Operations, Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, Nigeria. The session was moderated by Dr. Ibilola Amao, Principal Consultant, LONADEK Nigeria Limited, Nigeria.

The three-days exhibition as part Offshore West Africa, Comprised of prominent local and international organizations, displaying their latest products, services, technologies and Industry’s innovations, including Ariosh, Chevron, DNV GL, JC International, Richardson Oil and Gas, Royal IHC, SNEPCo, Total E and P, Westfield Subsea and many More.

Registration to attend the event was available onsite at the Eko Hotel and Suites through out the event.
For the second year in a row, Offshore West Africa Included a Continuous Professional Develpment (CPD) programme, supported by the Energy Institute Nigeria. This initiative is part of PennWell Corporation’s and Offshore West Africa’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy to help with the West African region’s objective of developing a fully sustainable sector.

As part of the collaboration between Offshore West AFrica and the Energy Institute of Nigeria and LONADEK, a youth empowerment programme was also held for the duration of the event for a selected group of students and young professionals to attend the exhibition and listen to presentations from various local and international companies. The programme was sponsored by the Niger Delta Science, Technology and Bioenterprise Development and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, including opening remarks by Dr. Reuben Jaja, chairman of the NDSTB.

The 20th anniversary event was brought to an end with the closing ceremony where Mr. David Paganie, Conference Director, PennWell Corporation announced the return of Offshore West Africa to the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos on 24th to 26th January, 2017 for the 21ist annual conference and ehibition.

Glenn Ensor, Managing Director PennWell in his closing remarks stated” we are pleased that Offshore West Africa 2016 has been so wonderfully received here in Lagos, and this has been a great way to celebrate 20 years of the event with a record attendance once again continuing the successes of the 2015 event in somewhat turbulent time for the industry within Nigeria is somthing that we thank all participants, including delegates, visitors, sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers for helping us to achieve this. We are proud to have brought together over 2,700 industries and young Professionals and we are delighted to becoming back here to the Eko Hotel and Suites in January 2017.
