Apart from competing in her first continental tournament, 16-year-old Georgia Oboh is the youngest player among an array of stars competing at the 2017 3e Actuaries Golf Open.
Being one of the nine amateur players competing in the tournament, Oboh got a rare privilege during the opening ceremony of the tournament on Wednesday when she was part of the few invited players that got a presidential handshake from the number one citizen of Equatorial Guinea, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
A confident Oboh, who had her first training session earlier in the day told NationSport that she had a feel of the course and she is at home with it and hopes to give her best against the star-studded competitors.
In the first round draw, Oboh has been drawn in group 13 alongside Sweden’s Maria Linda Wessberg and Senegal’s Anoune Samba Niang.
2017 Kwara Open champion, Sunday Olapade is drawn alongside Britain’s Luke Joy and Leticia Ras-Andercia.
The day one matches would be concluded yesterday while the successful players will progress to the next round today for Day Two of the $250,000 prize money tournament which ends on Sunday December 17.
