Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has faulted the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr for fielding John Mikel Obi at an advanced position against Croatia last weekend.

Nigeria got their 2018 FIFA World Cup opening campaign to a losing start on Saturday, June 16 – with Oghenekaro Etebo and Luka Modric scoring the goals that powered the Croats to victory in that encounter.

Mikel functioned well as a defensive midfielder during his 11-year reign at Chelsea, and the Portuguese tactician believes the 31-year-old was played out of position.

The Tianjin Teda striker was the player rightly behind striker Odion Ighalo, and Mourinho, who is a pundit on the Russian TV station RT, said that: “Nigeria lost a good No.6 to get a bad No.10.” The Super Eagles, who have failed to advance the two previous times they lost their opening games, face Iceland on Friday needing a win to keep hope alive.
