The Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC’s) data report for the first quarter (Q1) of the year 2017 has revealed that Globacom recorded 72% figure which surpasses the industry’s average of 59%.
As at the end of the Q1, the telecommunications industry is reported to have 90,003,101 internet users against 152,216,763 subscribers in the industry.
According to checks, Globacom, has netted highest in data penetration among other subscribers of telecommunication operators in the industry.
This is said to consolidate its position as the top on the list in data penetration.
From records, it is deducible that Globacom has maintained its first position on the list as the preferred network for data services with half a million subscribers added its internet base from 2016 till this report.
The telecommunication company’s unstaggering rise, in the face of the huge fall in number of internet users in the industry in the last one year, is commendable.
According to NCC data report, Globacom had a total number of 27,021,200 internet users on its network which is 72% of the total number of 37,328,827 subscribers on the network at the end of Q1.ý
However, Etisalat came next on the data count with 68% or 13,008,481 data users out of a total subscriber base of 19,621,806.
Airtel, with a total number of 34,656,605 subscribers on its network, reportedly ranked third with 56% internet usage with a total data subscriber base of 19,423,760 as at March, 2017.
On the other hand, MTN netted a total number of 30,519,351 or 51% of its 60,391,959 customers who subscribed to its data services.
The entire Globacom’s figure is reported to had come to 92,409,962 in March, 2016 but shrinked to 90,003,101 by March, 2017 with MTN and Etisalat recording losses, having shed 2,837,244 and 2,234,375 data customers respectively during the period under review.
