The Nigerian Women in Information Technology have received commendations from the EVC/CEO of the Nigeria Communications commission on their tireless efforts in the training of the girl child.
This assertion was made known when the EVC/CEO presented laptop computers to the NWIT as reward to the winners of an ICT/cybercrime competition organized for secondary school girls organized by the group.
Making the presentation on behalf of the EVC/CEO of NCC, the Director Public Affairs NCC, Mr Tony Ojobo said the commission was fully in support of the activities of the NWIT and promised their continuous support to the group to achieve her goal of encouraging the girl child to be fully ICT compliant.
Ojobo further stated that the commission saw the support given to encourage ICT as something the commission is known for, stating they have supported various institutions in form of infrastructure connectivity programmes in many universities and their teaching hospitals; as well as the Digital Awareness Programme for primary and secondary schools; the Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions, its companion programme – the Wireless Cloud; and the Virtual Examination Centres donated to examination administering agencies for Computer-based testing.
He added that there was a need for the group to partner with other stakeholders to ensure this objective of the NWIT is fully actualized.
Receiving the Laptop computers on behalf of NWIT was the National president, Dr. Florence Babalola, who was filled with joy and appreciated the kind gesture of the EVC/CEO for their support.
She added that her organization was fully equipped and capable to ensuring that women are leading light in the ICT world not just in Nigeria but globally. Also with their engagement with these women and girls, every family and the society at large will be fully educated on ICT trends.
