Mysterious fire over the week-end reportedly razed Odogbolu local government chapter of Buhari/Osinbajo campaign office, Atiba destroying in its wake over N10 million properties.
The property is owned by the famous socialite and politician, Otunba Babatunde Onakoya fondly called Debasco, who is also the Coordinator of Buhari/Osinbajo campaign in the local government as well as Chairman, Mobi-lisation Committee for All Progressives Congress, APC in Ogun State.
According to the security guard on duty who simply identified himself as Sakariyau, he said he was about to round off for the day when he heard a sudden loud explosion after which he saw fire and smoke coming from a section of the property.
He explained that he immediately ran to the main building to call people’s attention, adding that all the occupants in the building ran out and tried to quench the fire, but all their efforts proved abortive.
Some APC members at the scene of the incident, however, blamed it on opposition forces who might be aggrieved over the party primaries just held in the state.
Many of them were of the opinion that the arsonists might have been political thugs hired to the dirty bids of their master feeling uncomfortable with the intimidating rise for the famous socialite in the political circle of the ruling party in the state.
Speaking over the unfortunate incident, Otunba Onakoya said he was surprised that he could be an object of political attack of this magnitude since he never had any issue with any individual, party chieftains or members “because I’m a leader to all and I don’t deserve this kind of treatment.”
Onasanya said he lost goods worth about N10 million stocked in the boutique located upstairs the burnt secretariat, while the air-conditioners, fans, furniture and other facilities inside the secretariat were completely destroyed by the fire.
He urged his supporters to remain calm over the incident and be law-abiding citizens because politics according to him, is not supposed to be do-or-die but a matter of choice
He said though he was not around, he had instructed his aides to report the incident to the police.
The spokesman for Ogun State police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi however told our Correspondent that he was not aware of the incident.
