Kebbi State Government has released the sum of N4.2 million to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to commence the process of registering a state-owned football club in the national league.
The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Abubakar Besse, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday that the new club would have players recruited from local clubsides.
“The registration of a football club at the division two level will be the launching pad for sports development in the state,’’ he said.
Besse said also that budgetary allocation had been made for the upgrading of the Halliru Abdu mini-stadium in Birnin Kebbi.
“The bid for the upgrading of the stadium has been called for and completion of the selection process will signal the commencement of work in the stadium,’’ he said.
The commissioner added that provision would be made for stadiums in Zuru and Yauri Emirates of the state, adding “the stadiums will be of 5,000 capacity’’.
He said efforts would be intensified to revive sports, especially through the sponsorship of competitions, adding that sports associations in the state would be revived.
