Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad of Delta State Police Command, SAKCCS, have apprehended a 50-year-old Italian, Fernando, whose gang is suspected to be behind several kidnappings in the state.
Police also nabbed another kidnap linchpin, reportedly on the run since 2015 after his band took hostage the mother of former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Mohammed, who confirmed the arrests in Asaba, said the Italian kidnap kingpin, born of a Nigerian mother, was tracked to a location at Okpe, Isoko North Local Government, where his syndicate kept a 35-year-old kidnap victim, Elohor.
He said Elohor was abducted on May 26 in Ozoro, but acting on intelligence information, “SAKCCS detectives stormed his hideout on Okolobi Street, Erevue Quarters, Ozoro and arrested him. “Three other members of the gang escaped. They had initially collected N250,000 from the victim and were demanding for additional N200,000 before she was rescued.”
