The Provost, Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State, Dr. Lukmon Kiadese, has called on the Federal Government and corporate organisations to invest in teachers’ education in order to improve on the standard of education in the country.
Kiadese said this on Thursday at a briefing held in the school, following accreditation of 27 academic programmes at the college by the National Commission for Colleges of Education.
Kiadese noted that a nation’s education standard would be determined by the quality of its teachers.
He said, “All fields of human endeavours must be taught by the teacher. So, government must invest heavily in teachers’ education, most especially in infrastructure and human capital development.”
Kiadese also backed the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria on the registration and professionalisation of the teaching profession.
He said, “Anybody who has no background in teaching has no business in teaching. Because of the bad economy in the country, so many people have taken to teaching profession in further search of a greener pasture. So, if you want to be a teacher you must be certified and professionally qualified
