Ilaro Poly SUG President, one other arrested for cultism

Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of President of Students Union Government of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun state, Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji and one Olanrewaju Taiwo allegedly for cultism.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that Olatunji and Olanrewaju  were arrested on Sunday following intelligence report received by Ilaro Police Division that some people suspected to be cultists were sighted in a bush trying to initiate new members.

Oyeyemi added that, upon receiving the information, the DPO Ilaro division, CSP Olayemi Jacob mobilized his patrol team and moved to the scene and arrested the two suspects

He said the suspects were arrested in full regalia of the dreaded black axe cult group and have been taken to custody at Ilaro divisional headquarters where they are being currently interrogated.

Meanwhile, the authority of the institution said it has suspended the its SUG President, Mr. Adegboye Emmannuel Olatunji for alleged involvement in cultism.

The Polytechnic in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sola Abiala said, the institution got wind of the students’ leader’s involvement in cultism activities through neighbouring community and the security architecture of the polytechnic.

Abiala said, the Polytechnic suspended him with immediate effect pending his appearance before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

He said, the suspension of  Olatunji was in line with the Act establishing the Polytechnic and the provision of the Student’s Handbook coupled with the Polytechnic’s zero tolerance to cultism.

Abiala therefore commended the local Vigilante Group in conjunction with Nigerian Police Force and the Directorate of State Security for foiling the initiation attempt by the suspect and his cult group on other students of the institution.
