Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has assured the People of Benue State of his administration determination to do everything possible by liaiasing with the Federal government through the National Assembly and the Federal ministry of Water Resources to restore the lost glory of Gboko Ameladu Water Works by making it functional again.
Governor Ortom gave the assurrance on Tuesday when he led his government delegation on inspection of some projects executed by his government within Gboko local government area of the state.
The Govvernor also also inspected ongoing construction work of roads projects ncluding Isaac Shaahu road and the Tor Tiv Palace among other projects.
Nigerian NewsDirect reports that the water project was initiated and executed and handed over to the Benue State Government in 1993 by Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, (IBB) administration and was later vandalized in 2008.
The Governor who visited to assess the level of vandalisation said the project can not be allowed to waste but that he will liaias with the Federal Government, House Committee on Water Resource and development partners to make the water works functional.
Ortom said the level of vandalisation at the water works is beyond the state government capacity, hence the need to seek for collaboration.
He said he will provide adequate security to guard the remaining equipment from further theft and vandalisation.
Ortom said the water works is capable of providing over 9000 Cubic meters. It is sad to
State government will also contribute it’s quota to ensure that the project is functional to provide the water needs of the people.
Speaking on the Greater Makurdi Water Works, Ortom said the ongoing work there is 90 percent complete saying what is remaining is the reticulation works to enable Government supply water to Makurdi people
The Govvernor tasked the contractor handling the construction of Tor Tiv palace to hasten work on the project with a view to ensure completion before the end of 2020.
