Ogun state police command has arrested one Idowu Sikiru, of Itowo, Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo in Ijebu North local government area of the state for allegedly forcing his five yr old son, Segun Sikiru, to sit on red hot aluminum plate after being caught of stealing cooked fish.
The police, according to the statement from its Spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that Idowu had through this alleged act of wickedness inflicted grievous bodily harm to his son giving him serious burns in the buttocks.
He was said to have been arrested following information received by the police in Ijebu Igbo division from members of the public who alerted the police that the suspect was about to kill the poor boy.
On the strength of the information, the DPO Ijebu Igbo Division, SP Kazeem Solotan was said to have quickly mobilized his detectives to the area where the suspect was arrested.
The police explained further that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect accused the boy of stealing cooked fish afterwhich he put an aluminum plate on fire and when the plate was red hot, he forcefully asked the boy to sit on it as a way of punishment thereby given the victim a serious burns on his buttocks.
Idowu was equally alleged of using the plate to burn the his son’s fingers and part of his mouth.The boy was said to have been rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
